Tennis Rules

This by-law are made by the Committee pursuant to section 14 (46) of the Rules of the Sandakan Golf and Country Club and shall come into force on the 1st day of November 1983.

1. Use of Courts
(i) The courts are open to all members of the Club subject to their prior registration as Tennis players with the Tennis Sub-Committee, and guests of members as defined below.
(ii)Normal use of the courts will be suspended when authorised competitions are in progress.

2. Hours of play
(i) The hours for play will be between 6:00 am to 10:00 pm daily.
(ii) Junior members of the Club must give way to Ordinary members between the hours of 4:00 pm to 7:00pm.
(iii) Junior members will have priority on court 1 on Saturday and Sunday morning.

3. Tennis Attire
(i) Normal accepted clothes of either basically white with colour combinations are to be worn.
(ii) Clothes advertising products or commercial services are not to be worn.
(iii) Only tennis shoes and socks are to be worn.
(iv) No jogging shoes or shorts are allowed.

4. Court Booking
(i) Courts are available for bookings between the hours of 3:00 pm and 10:00 pm daily and 6:00 am to 9:00 am on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
(ii) A court may be booked for one or two period of 45 minutes each by a player with a partner or by a group of players, in any one day.
(iii) Members who failed to turn up 3 times in a month after booking the court will have to explain the reasons to the Sub-Committee if required. If the reasons are unacceptable by the Sub-Committee, he/she will be banned for further booking of court for a period of 2 months.
(iv) Outside the above mentioned hours, players shall play on a first come first served basis provided that they shall vacate the court on the hour if there are persons waiting to play. All players, however, must register their names on the black board provided in a sequence.
(v) A single player with no partner has no standing on the courts.
(vi) Bookings are to be made in person and may not be made more that three days in advance. A register for booking purposes will be kept by the Manager.
(vii) The person making the booking must himself be actually playing during the period being booked and he must register one other player who must also be playing.
(viii) If a member making the booking fails to turn up within 15 minutes of the allotted time, the booking will be considered cancelled and the court open to anyone.

5. Charges
(i) A court charge of RM4.00 per hour, or part thereof, is payable for play between the hours of 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm to cover the cost of lighting.

6. Guest
(i) A properly introduced Sandakan resident guest will be charged a court fee of RM20.00 for 2 sessions per day for use the tennis facilities but such guest may not play more than once in any calendar month.
(ii) A properly introduced visitor to Sandakan who is not a member of an affiliated Club will be charged a court fee of RM20.00 for 2 sessions per day for use the tennis facilities provided that such a guest may not play more than 3 days in any one week and 14 days in any one year.
(iii) If a member is found failing to register his/her guest, a penalty of 3 times the payment will be charged.

7. General
(i) All tennis players members and guests are subject to the Rules and by-law of the Club.
(ii) Any clarification on the conditions for use of the courts may be sought from the chairman or any member of the Tennis Sub-Committee.
(iii) These regulations may be amended from time to time by the Club General Committee on the recommendations of the Tennis Sub-Committee.
(iv) Take care of your counts
(v) No spike shoes or golf shoes.
(vi) No high heels.
(vii) No hard soles.
(viii) No slippers or sandals.
(ix)Only shoes suitable for tennis
(x) Member are not allowed to hit the court with their Racquet or to throw their Racquet onto the court.
